모빌리티의 미래는 자율주행에 있다. 도심 한가운데서, 사람이 운전하는 차량이 완전히 없어지는 그런 미래야 언제 올진 모른다. 그러나, 대중 교통이 끊긴 늦은 밤이나 버스 노선이 적은 지역의 어느 구간에선 이미 자율주행차가 사람들의 발이 되고 있다.
국내서도 열심히 주행 데이터를 확보하고 기술을 고도화해 비즈니스 모델을 만들어내려는 회사들이 있다.
▲오토노머스에이투지 ▲라이드플럭스 ▲에스더블유엠(SWM) ▲에스유엠(SUM) ▲포니링크 등은 국토교통부의 허가를 받아 서울, 세종, 대구, 부산 제주 등의 지역에서 자율주행 운행 실증에 들어간 곳들이다. 이들 중 일부는 일부 구간에서 유상 운수 서비스를 시행하고 있기도 하다. 이들은 대체로 정부, 지자체와 손잡고 대중교통이나 물류가 가진 여러 문제를 자율주행으로 돌파할 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.
▶오토노머스에이투지
요즘 가장 많은 새소식을 내고 있는 회사다. 경주에서 열리는 ‘2025 APEC 정상회의’에서 각국 장관과 유력 기업의 인사들이 오토노머스에이투지의 레벨4 자율주행차 ‘로이(ROii)’를 탑승 체험한다. 로이는 국산화율 90% 이상의 한국형 레벨 4 차량으로 올해 APEC의 공식 자율주행차량으로 선정됐다. 로이는 올해 성능인증제 시험과 인증을 거쳐, 본격적인 상용화 추진에 들어간다.
오토노머스에이투지는 2018년, 현대자동차 출신의 자율주행 엔지니어 4명이 설립한 자율주행 솔루션 기업이다. 현재 국내선 가장 많은 62대의 자율주행차 운영 경험을 보유하고 있다. 도심 자율주행 분야에서 국내 최다 누적 주행거리인 약 74만km를 기록했다. 국내서는 자율주행 기업 중 최대인 누적 820억원의 투자를 받았다. 서울 청계천에서 운전대를 아예 없앤 자율주행 차량을 전국 처음으로 일반 도로에서 시범 운행하기도 했다.
가장 눈에 띄는 행보는 글로벌로의 진출 타진이다. 싱가포르 합작법인 ‘A2G(오토노머스투글로벌)’를 설립, 현지 스마트시티 프로젝트 ‘코스모(COSMO)’를 수주했다. 일본과는 현지 종합상사 가네마츠와 MOU를 맺고 일본 자율주행 시장 진출을 도모하고 있다. 최근 아랍에미리트(UAE) 두바이에서 열린 중동 최대 ICT 박람회 ‘자이텍스 글로벌(GITEX GLOBAL) 2025’에서도 현지 우주기술 기업 스페이스42와 손잡고 차량 전시를 하기도 했다. 참고로, 스페이스42와는 합작법인 ‘A2D(아부다비오토노머스드라이빙)’ 설립을 추진 중이다.

The future of mobility lies in autonomous driving. While it’s still difficult to predict when human-driven cars will completely disappear from city centers, autonomous vehicles are already stepping in to fill mobility gaps—particularly late at night when public transportation stops running, or in regions with limited bus services.
In Korea, several companies are actively collecting driving data, refining autonomous driving technologies, and developing viable business models. Companies such as Autonomous A2Z, RideFlux, SWM, SUM, and PonyLink have received approvals from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to conduct autonomous driving pilot operations in Seoul, Sejong, Daegu, Busan, Jeju, and other cities. Some have even begun paid passenger services on selected routes. Many of these projects are pursued in collaboration with government agencies and local municipalities, with expectations that autonomous driving will offer practical solutions to challenges in public transportation and logistics.
▶Autonomous A2Z
Among these companies, Autonomous A2Z has recently been making some of the most notable advancements. During the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju, ministers and executives from leading global companies will ride in ROii, the company’s Level 4 autonomous vehicle. ROii, which boasts over 90% domestically sourced components, has been selected as the official autonomous vehicle of APEC 2025. Having passed performance testing and certification this year, the company is now preparing to move forward with commercialization.
Founded in 2018 by four former Hyundai Motor autonomous driving engineers, Autonomous A2Z is a leading autonomous driving solutions provider in Korea. It holds the country’s largest operational experience with 62 autonomous vehicles on public roads, and the longest cumulative urban autonomous driving record of approximately 740,000 kilometers. The company has also secured KRW 82 billion in total investments—the highest among domestic autonomous driving startups. Notably, it was the first to trial a fully steering-wheel-free autonomous vehicle on public roads near Cheonggyecheon in Seoul.
One of the company’s most notable moves is its push into global markets. Autonomous A2Z has established a joint venture in Singapore, A2G (Autonomous to Global), and secured participation in the local smart city project COSMO. In Japan, the company has signed an MOU with trading conglomerate Kanematsu to explore market entry. At GITEX GLOBAL 2025 in Dubai, the company also showcased its autonomous vehicle in cooperation with UAE-based space technology firm Space42, and the two are now pursuing the formation of another joint venture, A2D (Abu Dhabi Autonomous Driving).
